The Obasan Designer Foundation is not the plain base you hide beneath your mattress and tuck out of sight inside a bed frame. It is a piece of furniture in its own right, designed to be seen. Each foundation is handcrafted to order in our Ottawa workshop from solid, sustainably sourced Quebec wood, then layered with GOTS-certified organic wool for a base as pure as the mattress it supports.

Dress it in one of seven refined wool and linen fabrics, and choose the wood leg finish that suits your bedroom. Beneath the upholstery, firm 2" wooden slats let your mattress breathe, and gently recessed legs help prevent toe bumps at night. The frame is assembled with nails rather than glue, so no synthetic adhesives find their way into your sleep. An exceptional mattress deserves a foundation of equal character: the Designer Foundation is built to support yours for years to come, and is backed by a 20-year limited warranty.

The Designer Foundation is handcrafted in Canada using solid, sustainably sourced Quebec wood. It is finished with organic wool padding and finished with your choice of fabric for a natural, breathable support system.

The Quebec wood used in our foundations is selected for its strength and traceability. Our solid wood frame won't flex over time, and it is assembled with nails rather than glue. It's a durable, eco-responsible base, made in Canada.

You can choose from multiple leg styles, heights, and organic fabric finishes to match your bedroom design and personal preferences.

A solid platform foundation offers a rigid, uniform surface but limits airflow beneath the mattress. A slatted foundation, like the Obasan Designer Foundation, allows natural ventilation that regulates moisture and helps extend the lifespan of your mattress.

King (76" x 80") and California King (72" x 84") sizes are shipped in two pieces to make delivery and staircase access easier. Assembly is straightforward and requires no special tools. See our mattress assembly page for detailed instructions.

Yes, it is designed to work with all Obasan mattresses and provides optimal support for every model.

Yes. Thanks to its integrated wood legs, the Designer Foundation stands on its own, without a separate bed frame. It's a complete and visually refined solution for your bedroom.

The Designer Foundation is built for long-term durability and strong support, with a weight capacity of up to 1,200 lbs when properly assembled and supported.
